De La Salle North Catholic High School provides a faith-based, college-preparatory high school education to underserved students from the Portland area. We are the most diverse private high school in Oregon, and over 95% of our graduates are accepted into college. Our goal is to develop tomorrow’s community leaders by making high-quality education accessible to motivated young people in a learning environment that values cultural, spiritual, and ethnic diversity. Our Lasallian Catholic approach provides each student with the opportunity to succeed through small classes, high expectations, faith expression, community service, and active participation in our Corporate Work Study Program affiliated with the nationally recognized Cristo Rey Network.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Vice Principal for Academics is a key instructional and operational leader for the school's academic program, working under the general direction of the Principal. This role is essential for upholding the school's mission and driving high student achievement.

The Vice Principal for Academics will support the leadership of the academic program to include: observing teachers and coaching around research-based best practices; overseeing the curriculum work to ensure adherence and support in meeting our academic and mission goals; review and report on assessment data from both the classroom and the school as a whole; establish and facilitate professional development; and coordination of academic operations including summer academic programs and schoolwide testing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

A. Instructional Oversight and Teacher Support
*Supervise classroom instruction through teacher observations and coaching
*Oversee teachers’ compliance with posting of grades and course materials
*Oversee curriculum development to ensure adherence to meet our academic and mission goals
*Meet regularly with academic departments for instructional planning and review course guides

B. Academic Operations and Administration
*Academic Testing Logistics: Schedule, plan, and communicate student testing (PSAT, SAT, AP, and finals)
*Data Collection and Reporting: Review and report on assessment data
*Student Academic Standing: Review student grades and academic progress weekly/quarterly, and initiate parent meetings and academic contracts to ensure students are on track to remain in good standing and graduate
*Gradebook Management: Review and manage faculty input of grades during the school year
*Scheduling and Enrollment: Direct teacher assignments and student placement within the master schedule
*Registrar Oversight: Oversee the work of the Registrar, including PowerSchool management
*Policy and Compliance: Administer all school policies related to the academic life of the school and conduct an annual review of all academic policies
*Summer Programs: Coordinate the academic readiness and proficiency programs with the Summer School Administrator
*Intervention Programs: Oversee the Academic Resource Center (ARC) Coordinator and academic dishonesty interventions

C. Administrative Leadership and School Functions
*Enforce schoolwide expectations
*Assist the Principal with hiring of new teachers and creation of the master calendar for academics
*Hire and train substitutes, and assist the Registrar in coordinating substitute needs for teachers
*Support the coordination of academic events such as Back-To-School Night, academic recognition, and graduation, as examples
*Serve as an active member of the leadership and student support teams
*Other duties as assigned

A. Achievement-Leadership & Initiatives
*Academic Initiative Leadership in a Core Subject: Proven ability to lead and implement school-wide academic improvement initiatives, including developing, overseeing, and evaluating efforts specifically designed to improve student outcomes (experience leading initiatives in Math or ELA is a strong plus)
*Data-Driven Decision Making: Demonstrated ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data (assessment scores, observational data, student grades) to diagnose achievement gaps, inform instructional strategy, and measure the efficacy of interventions
*SAT Achievement Focus: Demonstrated experience in coordinating and driving initiatives to improve student achievement on college-readiness assessments, such as the SAT
*Track Record with Underserved Populations: Strong preference for candidates with experience in demonstrably raising student achievement with low-income or traditionally underserved populations

B. Leadership Presence and Communication
*Student Leadership: Proven ability to establish a strong presence with students to uphold high academic and behavioral expectations; must be able to conduct assertive, yet supportive, disciplinary conversations with students and parents while maintaining relationships built on mutual respect
*Adult Management & Influence: Demonstrated capacity to exercise leadership skills and possess the strong presence and management ability with adults required to inspire, equip, and push staff and faculty as needed

C. Curriculum and Instructional Management
*Instructional Fidelity and Efficacy: Demonstrated skill in visiting classrooms frequently to observe appropriateness, efficacy, and fidelity of academic programming and pedagogy
Teacher Mentorship and Coaching: Proven ability to provide frequent support to teachers through observations and feedback
*Curriculum Development and Alignment: Proven ability to supervise curriculum development and alignment and ensure curriculum is vertically and horizontally aligned
*Professional Development (PD) Design: Proven experience in establishing and facilitating data-driven, results-focused professional development
*Exemplary Pedagogy: Have a track record of excellent classroom teaching, including demonstrable academic achievement data (e.g. growth/achievement on state assessments, AP exams, SAT/ACT)

D. Systems Leadership & Operational Agility
*Systems and Processes Orientation: Proven ability to create, optimize, and oversee academic systems and processes across the school, ensuring clarity and efficiency
*High Organization and Prioritization: Ability to plan in a manner that anticipates barriers, recognizes school-wide needs, and prioritize effectively
*Agility and Resilience: Ability and enthusiasm to perform in a fast-paced environment with a broad scope of activities and multiple deadlines, remaining calm under pressure and malleable to evolving needs

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
*Demonstrated successful classroom teaching experience of at least five years
*Hold an MA in education, leadership or a related field preferred
*Demonstrated expertise and leadership in the areas of curriculum development, cultural proficiency, evidence-based teaching and learning, instructional support, and results-focused professional development
*Proven ability or track record of developing, leading, and facilitating school-wide academic curriculum and/or professional development initiatives
*Proven management experience and administrative skills to organize, direct, motivate, and evaluate other professionals
*Fluency in Spanish preferred

Salary DOE.
